green roofingYou can now have homes and businesses fitted with more environmentally friendly roofing systems, which come in three main categories, energy saving cool roofs, energy harnessing solar roofs and garden roofs.

Cool Roofs

Cool roofs can be very simple and cheap to put in place, and are basically made from highly reflective materials, that are designed to prevent UV light and solar heat radiation from warming up your home.  This can save money on your summer cooling costs, and are durable and cost very little to maintain.

Solar Roofs

Solar roofs are designed to transfer the solar radiation of the sun into useable energy and are most commonly used to heat water for central heating and washing.   Solar roofs are also very useful for heating swimming pools, and the amount of power you produce will depend on the climate and the number of solar panels you have installed.

Garden Roofs

Garden roofs are ideal for city buildings, as they offer the chance to grow plants and vegetables in very confined spaces, and are also an aesthetic addition to highly concentrated urban and commercial environments.

Aside from saving you money on electricity bills, these new green home components and equipments can greatly increase the value of your home. Some states have already implemented an energy audit for homes on the market. If your home scores well, you can use this as a bargaining leverage for negotiations.
